DID YOU KNOW? Many Uses Of Condoms

26th Jul 2021

When we think of condoms, we generally associate them with sexual activity. However, condoms have many practical uses beyond the bedroom. In fact, they can be one of the most versatile tools to have on hand. Here are ten ideas on how condoms can be used other than sex:

Prevent Urinary Tract Infection: Wearing a condom during swimming in ponds and rivers can prevent UTIs.

Start a fire: Latex is highly flammable and condoms are made of latex, so they are great for starting a fire quickly, especially when you are using charcoal or firewood as cooking fuel.

Store water: Condoms are compact, stretchy, and watertight, making them ideal for storing water. A single condom can store up to 2 liters of water.

Protect cell phones: When you’re out hiking and it starts to rain, a condom can protect your cell phone from water damage.

Polish boots and shoes: For this case, you’ll need lubricated condoms. They work just as great as regular shoe polish.

Protect audio equipment: Condoms can be used to waterproof a microphone if you don’t have a hydrophone for underwater recording.

Keep your bandage dry: Wearing a cast or bandage can be uncomfortable, especially when you need to take a bath. However, a condom can be used to waterproof your arms, legs or the area that has a bandage.

Container: Archaeologists use them to collect water samples from stalactites for research.

Open a tight jar: Place a condom on top of the jar lid. The rubber should provide enough traction to twist that jar open.

Protect your barrel or rifle: During the Gulf War, the British Ministry of Defense shipped 500,000 custom-made camouflage condoms to troops in Saudi Arabia with the express purpose of protecting the guns from filling with sand.

Condoms have come a long way since their inception as a tool for contraception and preventing STIs. As demonstrated, they are not only useful in the bedroom but can also be used for many other practical purposes. Always keep a condom in your pocket, you never know when it might come in handy!
